Contents & fields

The dataset includes three gridded population datasets (DE_POP_VOLADJ16, DE_POP_TDBP, DE_POP_BU) at 10m resolution, units are people per grid cell. Data are provided in 30x30 km tiles, projection EPSG:3035, format compressed GeoTiff (*.tif) and GDAL Virtual (*.vrt).

  • DE_POP_VOLADJ16—Disaggregated national census counts using weighted dasymetric mapping with building density, height, and type covariates, adjusted volume for multi-family residential buildings
  • DE_POP_TDBP—Best product based on dasymetric mapping of municipal census counts using same three covariate layers
  • DE_POP_BU—Bottom-up gridded population estimate using building density, height, and type to compute living floor area, combined with federal per capita living area statistics

Research uses

Suitable for population distribution modeling, urban and regional planning, environmental health studies, disaster risk assessment, and other research requiring high-resolution population spatial distribution.

Why this is hard to get on your own

High-resolution population spatial data are difficult to obtain and inconsistent across sources; this dataset provides unified 10m gridded population data.
