Key facts
Contents & fields
The dataset includes dates/durations of environmental and phenological events derived from fixed-point repeat camera photographs. It covers timing of permanent winter snow and spring melt on north- and east-facing slopes (2002-2019), and invertebrate (spittlebug spittlemass) and plant (heather flowering, Scots pine leaf flushing) phenological events (2010-2019). Three daily photographs were taken to maximise cloud-free images; the clearest image was used. Event detection was mainly manual, but heather flowering used automated pixel colour counting. No field-level description is publicly available on the source page.
Research uses
This data can support studies on climate change impacts on alpine phenology, long-term monitoring of snow cover dynamics, plant phenology, and insect activity cycles.
This card was drafted from the source page; institution, coverage, time span, scale, fields and license are subject to the official page (pending human review).

Why this is hard to get on your own
When obtaining long-term alpine phenological observation data, issues such as scattered data sources, short time spans, and incomplete field descriptions are common.
