UniMi/ISAC-CNR Observational Dataset (t2m) on reanalysis grid and elevations

This dataset, a collaboration between the University of Milan and CNR-ISAC, provides gridded daily minimum and maximum surface air temperature observations over Italy for 1991–2020, interpolated onto the grids of six reanalysis products with elevation adjustment.

Contents & fields

The dataset contains gridded daily minimum and maximum surface air temperature observations over Italy for 1991–2020, interpolated onto the grids of six reanalysis products (ERA5, ERA5-Land, MERIDA, MERIDA HRES, CERRA, VHR-REA_IT). For each reanalysis grid, 30 annual compressed files (.7z format) are provided; after decompression, NetCDF files contain daily temperature fields and flag variables indicating rare missing interpolation cases.

  • t2m_min——Daily minimum surface air temperature
  • t2m_max——Daily maximum surface air temperature
  • flag——Flag variable identifying grid points where interpolation was not possible

Research uses

This dataset is suitable for validation and evaluation of reanalysis products, studies of temperature variability and climate change impacts in Italy, and comparative analysis between high-resolution gridded observations and reanalysis outputs.
